Opinion on this is divided. I was once naive enough to think that Australia was the one and true friend that we have who can be counted on to provide good guidance, helpful advice and strong admonition if we strayed off the path they had set for us. As a good friend, they would have respected our right to explore other options and ways to ensure that we all advanced in the same direction even if we shoes differing paths to the same outcome. But then, in those days, I did not understand the differing views as to the national interests and long term outcomes and aspirations of different countries, especially an Anglophile society like Australia that has historically viewed blacks as second or third class people.

SOUTHERN Highlands acting administrator Thomas Eluh has hinted at the cause of the chaos in Southern Highland Province.
The former top cop was appointed by the National Executive Council to the position just before the election and the election-related violence last year.
Mr Eluh said people wanted transparent leadership because there were a lot of problems which he felt if left unchanged would spell doom for the province.
“People are speaking from their hearts that they need a transparent leader. My appointment is for a short term of only three months. I accepted it and went there because I have talents and the abilities that are able to fight corruption,” he said.
Dare to dream, but in PNG it’s not enough
There are many people commenting online on the impacts of
decisions taken by the current Papua New Guinea government. Many express their
feelings about a looming fiscal crisis, these range from fury to indifference.
In the haste for change once again it is easy to assume that a new crop of
freshly elected leaders in a newly constituted PNG parliament after 2017 will
miraculously create the change PNG needs!
We must not forget that the same
laws will apply in the same national parliament and provincial houses of
assembly. In the same national and district courtrooms, case law will grow and
precedents will continue to be set in the absence of the hard questions that
may never get asked about the blatant breaches in our society and adopted
system of government.
Our broken service delivery system
and our overheated economy will need more than elected candidates with tunnel
vision.
